Naltar valley
Naltar is famous for its colorful lakes, it is situated at a drive of 2.5 hours from Gilgit. World’s tastiest potatoes are cultivated here. Covered with pine trees, this valley doesn’t seem to be a part of this world.

Naltar is a forested region known for its dramatic mountain scenery. Ski competitions are held at Naltar ski resort. Naltar Bala and Naltar Pine are two villages of Naltar valley. Naltar Pine is at a distance of 34 kilometres (21 mi) and Naltar Bala at 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Gilgit. There is a main village known as Nomal between Naltar valley and Gilgit. A road from Nomal goes to 'The Silk Route' to China.
Tourism Facilities:
Naltar Valley is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Northern Pakistan. The valley offers a variety of flora, fauna as well as natural scenery. Government has established a number of rest houses in the valley. GBPWD Rest house is the oldest rest house in the valley. FCNA, GB Scouts & PAF had their own rest houses to serve the purpose. There also are a number of private accommodation facilities & hotels in the valley. Mehmaan Resort is the largest and best facility in the valley.
Wild life sanctuary:
Naltar Wildlife Sanctuary was created on 22 November 1975. It occupies an area of 27,206 hectares (67,230 acres) and adjoins two other protected areas, Sher Quillah Game Reserve and Pakora Game Reserve, the total area of all three being over 50,000 hectares (120,000 acres).
FLORA:
The sanctuary is forested, there being a luxurious growth of mixed montane broadleaf and coniferous forest at lower altitudes and montane coniferous forest higher up. Coniferous species present include Picea and Juniperus. Deciduous trees present include Fraxinus, Olea, Pistacia, Sageretia, Betula, Salix, Populus and Krascheninnikovia ceratoides. Herbs present include Artemisia, Haloxylon and Stipa.




FUNNA:
A small number of Astor markhor , an endangered specie of wild goat, lives in the reserve.Other large mammals present include the Alpine ibex , the snow leopard , the brown bear , the grey wolf , the red fox , the beech marten and the leopard cat. About 35 species of bird have been recorded in the sanctuary, including the Brooks’s leaf-warbler . Naltar Valley is located in Gilgit Baltistan, around 40 km north west from Gilgit. There is direct public transport available from Gilgit.

The climate in Naltar Valley is moderate during summers. The temperature in July-August reaches a maximum of 22 °C .
